COS ENGINEERINGS10 Ethernet switch
The COS Engineering S10 network switch is so much more than an upgraded device from an IT company. The S10 is a fully featured ‘LAN distributor’ to coin a phrase from one reviewer.
S10 is an Ethernet switch designed to handle the frustrating lack of audio fidelity arising from streaming. Through a tested integration of power supply, clock and circuitry, it keeps exogenous noise under control. Powering up the S10 added to a hi-fi system with streaming is like uncorking one's favorite wine, bringing soothingly back the right flavor.
Stephen Gong of COS Engineering describes it as ‘an ethernet switch designed to handle the frustrating lack of audio quality arising from streaming’. The S10, through a tested integration of power supply, clock and circuitry, keeps exogenous noise under control.
Housed in a high quality aluminium chassis the S10 is stylish enough to feature with the rest of your equipment.
Unlike some conventional network switches the S10 has an integrated linear power supply and a noise filter – less cables and boxes…
Something else that sets this LAN distributor apart from the competition is the use of eight individual RJ45 copper ports. Each one can be switched on or off via a small DIP panel on the underside of the chassis. This allows optimal isolation and reduction of cross contamination between connections often found when banks of four RJ45 connections are employed. You can even switch off those (annoying) LED lights!
To complete the feature set COS Engineering have also included two SFP fibre ports for full galvanic isolation and connection to equipment supporting fibre inputs.
All connections are compatible with 100 or 1000 Mbps specifically for audio.
As with all COS Engineering products the S10 is meticulously engineered and the performance won’t disappoint.
The streaming aficionado is well catered for with the S10 and as the connoisseurs at COS say “Like decanting one’s favourite wine it brings out the smoothness and the flavour”.
The AC Filter and transformer are the same as those of COS D10, and the AC Filter is produced by the manufacturer itself, which shows that the materials used are not stingy at all.
A total of 12 capacitors are used, and the noise is smaller, which directly leads to better sound quality.
Generally, the Switch port will operate even when the LAN cable is not connected. The purpose is to detect whether there is a LAN connection. This will cause noise and directly affect the sound quality. In order to solve this problem, the manufacturer has set a switch mechanism under the machine. , unused ports can be turned off to maximize the performance of the Switch.
Each Oscillator uses one chip regardless of cost. Users do not need to connect an external Oscillator. Moreover, it is the cleanest, with a Jitter of only 0.045 Pico-second.
A sure-fire surprise, with a quieter background that adds depth and dimension. Dynamics and density have also been improved. What’s more obvious is that the amount of information is rich
