What is lost at this point remains lost forever - and conversely, it amplifies everything that comes in at the front. Sonic excellence is therefore extremely important here. ReliabilityAmplifiers are also commodities in daily use. They have to be stable and reliabl..

Can the $11,000 ATC SMC40A Active Loudspeakers live up to the high price and hype? They might be the most unassuming and impressive loudspeakers we’ve heard in years. Conclusion It’s very hard to call the ATC SCM40A an entry-level loudspeaker at $11,000 a pair. Most people will look at that designation and wonder if their marketing department have a cruel sense of humor. The reality is that you would have to spend a lot more on separates and a high-end pair of loudspeakers to achieve what ATC has accomplished with the SCM40A at that price point. The SCM40A prove that active loudspeakers can out..

Whether it’s because they break from tradition or challenge the hifi norm that the more separates you have the better, there are some genres of hifi kit that don’t perhaps get the recognition they deserve. Active speakers are very much in this camp. With their roots stemming more from pro than domestic audio origins, they are in many ways the unsung heroes of the hifi industry. As well as saving on box count (as you’re effectively getting a speaker and built-in mono block power amp within a single carcass) they also make a solid case for themselves on audio grounds. After all, our goal is asse..
