NuPrime is certainly bullish about its new DAC-9X. In the owner’s manual, the company describes it as a ‘reference-class DAC designed for studio professionals and high-end audiophiles’, which certainly throws down the gauntlet to established premium contenders such as Chord’s multiple-award-winning Qutest. The DAC-9X’s specification certainly stands up to scrutiny, being compatible with PCM files up to 24-bit/384kHz and DSD 256. Take a look inside the unit and you will find dual ESS Technology ESS9028Q2M DAC chips, one per channel, to optimise performance and reduce noise levels. Elsewhere the..

Hegel launched the H590 five years ago. We had never made an integrated amplifier at this level before and we were slightly apprehensive about the reaction from our customers. However, the combination of stellar performance and convenience made it an instant success, the reception from reviewers and customers was overwhelming. Finally, after three years of development, we are ready to present H600, the H590’s heir. With a host of new features, a new chassis design, a new DAC, an improved amplifier section, and a vastly superior streaming engine, the H600 is a true powerhouse that should cover ..

Technics SL-G700M2 player and Streamer - Not only is the G700M2 a top-class multi-platform streamer, but it is also an excellent (SA)CD player, headphone amp and pre-amp loadedA full bingo cardMany more high-end streamers mainly focus on one or two streaming options. It was back in mid 2019 that I reviewed Audiolab’s 6000A integrated amplifier. That particular design left a big impression on me. There wasn’t and still isn’t a great deal of serious competition for integrated amplifiers under £1,000. Some observers – rather oddly, I have to say – still see that market as ‘crowded’ but I would disagree. Sure, there are numerous designs out there but the numbers of seriously competitive amplifiers available to buy under £1,000? They are actually few in number. Audiolab saw this and decided to attack that particular consumer sector and did a tremendous job, pro..

In making Omega XC, Shunyata Research’s Caelin Gabriel set himself a challenge. “Create a power cord for Shunyata Research power conditioners that allows the conditioner to achieve its absolute maximum performance. Remove any and all constraints regarding construction time and difficulty and ignore cost limitations to produce the ultimate power cord.” So, no biggie! Three yearsThe Omega XC is the result of a research project that spanned more than three years, involving hundreds of tests, designs and construction solutions. The Omega XC features Shunyata Research’s VTX-Ag conductors in a hefty..

Carbon Special is the latest addition to the line and a good size beast it is, too. Standing 18 inches high and equipped with a 12-inch driver, it is, however, described by REL as a ‘modest size’ unit. Therefore, I am clearly out of the loop when it comes to what constitutes ‘big’ these days. Its shiny black cabinet ismade of 65mm thick MDF and features REL’s so-called BlackWidow carbon fibre drive unit (so, whatever you do, don’t mate with it), the material selected for its combination of stiffness and self-damping properties. It has a big roll surround to allow for a massive 100mm throw, wit..
