MISSION 778x Integrated Amplifier > Reviews
Mission’s 778X is a superb integrated amplifier with a wonderfully balanced sound and a comprehensive spec sheet.
Verdict >
It should be clear by now that the 778X is a fine all-rounder. It even sounds good through the headphone output and that isn’t always the case with amplifiers at this level. This Mission is up against some tough competition, and maybe its slightly understated sonic manner won’t draw the attention as strongly as its rivals, but make no mistake, this is a well-rounded product that deserves plenty of success. Retro appeal or not, the Mission 778X convinces.

What Hi-Fi
The Mission arrives in the budget amp segment with a specification that most rivals cannot match and a level of performance that is very hard to argue with. If you're looking for an affordable integrated... realistically you've just found it.
Conclusion >
The thing is that, more than this, the Mission doesn’t feel like a badge exercise. It’s a handsome, well made amp that has a socket for pretty much any occasion and that sounds extremely good across all of them. It does nothing to dent Mission’s formidable run of form and will work brilliantly with a rather wider selection of speakers than simply the in house ones. This is a fantastic affordable amplifier that heads to the top of the pecking order and that is an easy Best Buy.

The Mission 778X has proven to be an incredibly compelling package that blends retro charm with modern performance. Despite its compact form factor, the amplifier offers surprising power and control, reminiscent of more expensive models within the IAG portfolio, such as the Audiolab 6000A. Its sonic signature is clean, neutral, and slightly analytical, making it a perfect match for "warmer" sounding speakers like the Q Acoustics 5020 or models from Dali and Wharfedale.
Conclusion >
Superb Internal DAC: Unlike many competitors at this price point, the Mission features a high-quality ESS Sabre DAC that doesn't require an immediate external upgrade.
Versatility: With eight inputs (including Bluetooth and a phono stage) and a compact footprint, it fits perfectly on a hi-fi rack or a desk.
Driving Authority: It handles trickier speaker loads with ease, where some more affordable rivals might struggle.
While it might not offer the same expansive soundstage as the Cambridge Audio AXA35, the overall feature set and build quality make the Mission 778X one of the best amplifiers in the sub-£1,000 category. Highly recommended!
