HEGEL H200: The All-in-One Amplifier That Sounds Exceptional > enjoythemusic.com
Enjoy the Music.com has published a review of the HEGEL H200 by Tom Lyle. His verdict is clear: this is one of the most convincing integrated amplifiers in its class.
What it offers: 150 W per channel into 8 Ω, stable operation down to 2 Ω, a built-in DAC, a network streamer, a phono stage for MM cartridges and a headphone output. It is built around Hegel’s SoundEngine 2 technology, which cancels distortion without relying on conventional negative feedback. The damping factor exceeds 4000, giving the amplifier a very firm grip on the loudspeakers.
How it sounds: The reviewer describes an authoritative, controlled and dynamic sound. Acoustic instruments sound lifelike, the soundstage is wide and deep and the background is completely silent. The sound quality stays the same whichever input is used: the streamer, the phono stage or an external source. He also rates the built-in DAC, the MM phono stage and the headphone amplifier with its own power supply very highly.
Connectivity: Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect, Apple AirPlay, Google Cast, internet radio and UPnP. There is also a USB-A input for playing music from a drive or flash stick, and a wired network connection.
The reviewer’s conclusion: Lyle says he cannot recall an integrated amplifier that surpassed it, apart from much more expensive ones. None of those also included a DAC, streamer, phono stage and headphone amplifier. In his words, the H200 is “practically untouchable”.
