AURENDER A1000 > Twittering Machines Revier
Aurender A1000 – a versatile streamer, server, DAC and preamplifier for modern hi-fi
The Aurender A1000 is an exceptionally versatile and attractively priced digital source that combines the functions of a music server, streamer, DAC and preamplifier in a single elegant unit. Despite a price of around USD 3,500, it delivers performance and build quality typically associated with far more expensive components—something the reviewer kept coming back to throughout the listening sessions: “How did they manage to do this at this price?”
Versatility and functionality
Although at first glance it appears to be a straightforward network player (Ethernet input, analog output), the A1000 goes far beyond this basic role. It can operate as:a network player (Ethernet input, digital output),
a streaming DAC (Ethernet + analog output),
a USB DAC (USB input + analog output),
a music server when fitted with an internal SSD/HDD,
a preamplifier with built-in volume control,
a digital hub with multiple inputs (HDMI ARC, optical, coaxial) and even Bluetooth aptX-HD for mobile streaming.
In practice, the A1000 is Roon Ready certified, allowing seamless control via the Roon app—an essential feature for many users. While internal storage is not visible within Roon, Aurender’s own Conductor control app provides full access to the internal music library along with additional functionality.
Design and build
The A1000 is housed in a beautifully finished anodized aluminium chassis, featuring a large 6.9-inch IPS color LCD display that shows album artwork and essential playback information. The front panel includes physical buttons, a rotary volume control and an IR remote, although the reviewer preferred to operate most functions via the app.Under the hood, the A1000 features an AKM4490REQ dual-mono DAC and a quad-core ARM Cortex-A55 processor, each powered by its own dedicated linear power supply. This design ensures stable operation and a notably low noise floor.
Sound and listening experience
As a streaming DAC, the A1000 impresses with a sound that is highly resolving yet smooth and refined. The reviewer emphasized that the A1000 is musically well balanced, drawing the listener into the musical experience rather than artificially highlighting micro-details. This harmony between dynamics and warmth makes long listening sessions thoroughly enjoyable, even when compared with significantly more expensive components. In the reviewer’s own system, the built-in preamp was occasionally compared to an external preamplifier. In some cases, an external tube preamp (such as the Leben CS600X) delivered a slightly fuller and more organic sound. Even so, as a streaming DAC, the A1000 performs superbly and stands out as one of the best players the reviewer has heard in its price class.
Aurender also offers additional digital options such as Digital Filter and Critical Listening Mode, which subtly alter the sound character—the latter adding a touch more clarity and dynamic presence in the upper frequencies.
Control and applications
The Conductor app is clean, intuitive and powerful, although many users may still prefer Roon for its ease of use and deep ecosystem integration. Support for Tidal Connect and other streaming protocols ensures that the A1000 works seamlessly with a wide range of services and platforms. Conclusion
The Aurender A1000 is not just “another streamer”—it is a compact, visually appealing and remarkably versatile digital component that delivers far more than its price might suggest. Its musical, well-balanced sound, robust feature set and excellent build quality make the A1000 one of the best all-in-one solutions available for hi-fi enthusiasts seeking a combined server, streamer and DAC in a single component.Aurender A1000
